summer opportunities for students
These programs are not affiliated with North Springs or Fulton County. They were discovered by word of mouth from other teachers and students. Although they are all aimed at gifted students, the activities, duration, price, and requirements of each program is unique.
The Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) is a residential summer program for gifted and talented high school students who will be rising juniors and seniors during the program. The program offers instruction that is significantly different from the typical high school classroom and that is designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders.
SPI Summer Programs International is the Leader in High School Language Immersion & Cultural Leadership. Founded in 1996, SPI offers college credit high school study abroad programs in Spain, France, Italy, Costa Rica, China, and Mexico. SPI’s interactive language immersion programs combine inspiring cultural leadership experiences, volunteer service projects, and exciting travel excursions where language and culture come to life!
Leangap is designed to help high school students start real companies in one summer in order to learn the core fundamentals of entrepreneurship. Week 1: student entrepreneurs will pitch ideas, form teams, validate business models are mentored by top entrepreneurs. Week 2: Teams create real products with the guidance of our mentors. They will then beta test w/ customers. Week 3: Demo and pitch the product to investors. Startups will launch the product to the market.
GGC Tech Camp is specially designed to introduce and engage high-school students for a week-long learning excursion in technology. Activities are developed and led by GGC faculty and enriched by GGC students. Explore two topics each day: Using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Creative Cloud to create videos and collages for social media, and creating vector graphics and 3D text effects using Adobe Illustrator.You can also expect to connect technology to other disciplines.
Thinking of a career as a coder, game developer, designer, or engineer? The Naval Academy’s Summer STEM Program is all about exploring, creating, building, and making things better. You’ll work with students from all over the country as you test your problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration skills. For over 30 years, the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) has been offering events and scholarships designed to excite students to become engineers.
Youth About Business hosts several camps across the nation. Southeast "Basic Business" Camp is held at Emory University! Students from 9th-12th grade gain an understanding of business by participating in actual merger and acquisition transaction simulations. The program exposes students to business in a competitive, fun environment and adds relevance to their education. In Year 1, "Basic Camp," students attend a one-week overnight camp on a university campus.
